Southern Cupola

Pulaski Courthouse
4x6 inch
oil on linen canvas
GIFT

Painted this a couple of weeks ago for my brother-in-law's birthday. This is the cupola of the courthouse in Pulaski, Tennessee, where they live.  I have always admired the beautiful building, and thought it would be wonderful subject matter to paint. Love the patina of the dome, and probably should have worked on the sky some more, but ran out of time. Loved getting lost in the columns.
So much to paint and so little time. :)

Pulaski Courthouse

Erected in 1909, the neoclassical building is marked by tall Corinthian columns. In the cupola, the 1858 bell still strikes the hours. Solid brass door pulls are incised "Giles." One of the most beautiful courthouses in the state.
Love saying the word cupola.:)
