"Mystical Willow"

I was going through some of my paintings pulling out ones that I might repost on days I'm still working on another painting. This one has kind of grown on me. Right after I painted it I thought I went a little crazy, but now I kind of like the feel of it.

"Little taste of Italy"

This was a quaint little Italian restaurant in Boston we passed while on the trolley tour. I knew when I saw it that I wanted to paint it. I would love to go back someday and eat there, because it was so charming on the outside. Has anyone been there before? I think the sign said Gia Ristorante.

"Clearwater on My Mind"

This was painted from a street view of Florida while on Google Street View for the Street View paint off competition. Kay Kahn has done a great job with this blog, as well as a facebook page. If you get a chance go to the blog and enter a painting or vote for your favorites.  Prizes given for the winner each month!
This was a great way to dream of warmer weather.

You have until February 5th to vote. Link to vote for your favorites.

"Blowing Bubbles"

I took a photo of these elephants at the St. Louis zoo. It was so adorable watching the baby blow bubbles while the mom watched over him. I might have left too much of the underpainting showing, but I kind of liked the different feeling it was giving it.

"Snow Day"

I painted this plein air inside. I guess that is cheating, but I had the perfect view standing in my warm dining room. I was not happy with it a couple of weeks ago, but I decided I needed to post today so I am posting it. There are so many layers of trees in the distance and was challenging with it snowing off and on, but was so beautiful!  (See photo of area I was painting in post below.)

"Camo Bird"

Love watching the birds in the snow as they look for food. More snow last night, but the sun is melting it quickly. Photo was taken looking out my window last week. Yesterday there were six deer in the front yard-just wanted them to be still long enough to paint. :)

SOLD- 6"x 6" oil on panel- $50
Email me if interested in a frame also.

"Soul Window"

I love painting eyes!! I took a photo of this horse at the molasses festival a few months ago, and like so many of my photos I go through them wondering which would make a good painting. This was one I was in the mood to paint, so it was the pick of the day. I think I have attention deficit when it comes to sticking with a subject. I am always in awe of someone who paints the same subject consistently. I guess I have painted a lot of horses lately. :)

"My Lady"

This is the companion piece to "Flowers for my Lady".  My lady already has flowers- this could be the start of a soap opera. I have some other figurines in the cabinet that might have given her the flowers.
Stay tuned....

Sorry not so great of a photo. I do have a black frame with gold around the inside edge that this would look great in.

"In a Garden copy after John Singer Sargent"

John Singer Sargent has been a favorite artist of mine since college. I LOVE his work!! I had the opportunity of seeing an exhibit in Chicago, and was totally in awe of his brushwork. I am trying to keep loose, so I thought what a better way to learn then to study his work. His dramatic difference in values in the background really gave his painting depth. I started with a very dark ground, almost black. Actually it was a painting gone bad that I covered up. :)

"Flowers for My Lady"

With Valentine's Day coming up I was in the mood for something representing this special day of love. This little figurine was given to me by my great uncle when I was a child. Every time I would see him he would have a figurine for me that was his wife's, who then had just recently passed away. I have a whole cabinet of them, and I so cherish the memories of the excitement of receiving each one. I'm surprised I did not break them because I actually used to play with them like they were barbies. I really enjoyed painting this, and hope to paint "My Lady" to go with it.

Golden Meadow original oil by Carol DeMumbrum

$55-8x10 inch

Trees are hard for me. I must have scraped these off 10 times, and still not happy with them. The horses in the photo were in the shadow, so this was a good way to keep me from painting details. I had fun adding the cerulean blue in places. This was one that took me a lot longer than it should have, but hopefully I learned a lot. I don't want to paint a tree for a while. I am back to a still life today. :)

Artwork framed and ready for a new home. :)

Spent the day framing paintings for a horse show in Jacksonville. I bought some new framing tools, so I was making weird noises like Tim Allen on Home Improvement. It felt good to have the tools I needed for a change. Now to keep them all together in one location.

Email me if interested in one of these paintings.

"Foxtrot"- original equestrian painting by Carol DeMumbrum

My husband came up with the name for this painting. He thought of an album Genesis had that was called Foxtrot. Kind of the theme of the day, earlier we saw a red fox outside my studio. I was upset because I was unable to get to my camera fast enough. It would have been the perfect photo. :( I need to start wearing it around my neck. I would like to thank Juliet Harrison for the wonderful photo, acquired from her equine painters challenge blog. Be sure and check out the other artist's work and Juliet's incredible photos.

( I would like to paint everything, but it is often times hard for me to think of words to say. I found this quote by Picasso fitting. :)
