"Mission Cross"

Painted for the "A Day Not Wasted"  July challenge. This cross is on top of a building in the graveyard of the Santa Barbara mission. Lee always takes beautiful photos to paint from. In this months photo I chose to focus on the cross, but would love to paint the whole photo sometime. Please be sure and go to the site to see the beautiful work by Lee and the other artist who participated in this challenge.

"One"

Decided to wait and paint plein air in the late afternoon since the temps have been up near 100.  I picked a hard subject with only a couple of hours to paint, but it was a very good lesson in lighting and perspective. It looked very lonely with only one chair and one glass, but maybe sometimes one is not the loneliest number, or someone will show up soon with another glass and chair. :) Sorry for the glare in the photo.

"Serenity"

I'm not sure if this deer was feeling too serene as cars passed by him in Yellowstone, but to those passing by like myself the scene was an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I found the  background to be lots of fun since I was trying to keep it impressionistic and not letting myself get caught up in the details.

I hope in your week you are able to capture moments of serenity.

"God's Garden"

I am so in awe of everything I saw and experienced on my recent vacation. This was painted from one of my favorite days in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods.  It was later in the day and there were people setting up their tripods for a shot of these red rocks. I thought to myself this is one of the many pictures I will be painting—the clouds were perfect and the lighting was incredible. I had the song "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" while painting this, with a change of words "I Could Paint of your Love Forever".  I could never paint the total magnificent beauty of what God created around us, but I so love sharing with you my interpretation of it.

"Ducky"

I am back from a wonderful family vacation to Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore and Pikes Peak. I was in total awe of the beauty around me—there are no words to describe it. God is so awesome! I wanted to paint the whole time, but there was just no time. I did take lots of photos, so I do have lots of reference. To get back in the groove I thought I  would start with a challenge painting, so I found this cute little baby duck on Lela Stankovic's site —"Paint and Draw Together"
