This is a painting a painted a few weeks ago. I am busy painting the walls of our basement, so I feel guilty I have not been able to sit at the easel lately. The day does not feel complete if I don't get to at least think about a new painting. This painting reminds me spring is around the corner!!!

"Colors by the Bay"

This was for the virtual paintout challenge this month of a street view in San Francisco. I wanted to paint something fast and loose, so I chose this colorful doorway. "Blessed Assurance"

Like the dove assured Noah of dry land with the olive leaf—the cross is a continuing assurance of God's love for us.

"Cumulus Clouds copy after Robert Henri"

This painting was done for Michelle Burnett's Following The Masters Challenge, after Robert Henri's Cumulus Clouds. Michelle also recommended reading The Art Spirit by Robert Henri. I am about half way through the book and I am really enjoying it. It has me really thinking about the subject matter I paint in a different way. Robert taught his students to —"Paint  what you feel. Paint what you see. Paint what is real to you." While studying the painting above I could feel the emotion of what he must have felt while painting this scene in 1902.
