"Birds of a Feather"

I often see geese fly over my house in the V formation, and while painting this picture I was thinking about the reason they fly that way. First, I read they fly that way to conserve their energy. Each bird flies slightly above the bird in front of him, resulting in a reduction of wind resistance. The birds take turns being in the front, falling back when they get tired. In this way, the geese can fly for a long time before they must stop for rest. The second benefit to the V formation is that it is easy to keep track of every bird in the group. Flying in formation assists with the communication and coordination within the group. Wow, sounds like they have a very good system of working and taking care of one another.

Birds of a feather do flock together. I am so thankful for the network of artist who through their blogs encourage and help one another. There is so much awesome artwork and information available—very inspiring. Thanks to all my friends and family who continue to inspire me everyday through their love and friendship!

Hey Carol, I love seeing your paintings! You are so good. This painting reminded me of a joke a man told Michael. He asked him if he knew why the V shapes were longer on one side than the other. Do you know why?

Because one side has more ducks/geese than the other...ha ha

Have a good day! Cindy McG

Cindy — I am so glad you are enjoying my paintings! I saw geese in a v formation this morning and grabbed my camera but I was too late. I hope to get a good picture to paint soon.
